Montessori Curriculum

A hands-on curriculum where children learn by doing, at their own pace, across five Montessori areas and beyond.

Learning Through the Hands

Every Kidsville classroom is a prepared environment: low, open shelves hold carefully chosen materials, each with a clear purpose. Children choose their work, take it to a mat or table, and return it when they're done. Our educators observe each child and introduce new materials when they're ready.

Below, you'll find what your child actually does in each of the five Montessori areas, and the materials that make it possible.

Practical Life

Practical life is the foundation of everything else. Pouring, spooning, buttoning, sweeping, preparing snacks and caring for plants and the classroom build independence, concentration, coordination and order.

These real tasks also teach grace and courtesy: how to greet a friend, wait a turn, offer help and care for shared spaces.

Sensorial

Sensorial materials such as the pink tower, colour tablets, sound cylinders and knobbed cylinders each isolate one quality: size, colour, sound, weight or texture.

Through repeated hands-on work, children learn to notice, compare and order, building the observation, vocabulary and early mathematical thinking they'll use for years.

Language & Literacy

Language grows through conversation, songs, stories and our “Words in Action” storytelling and role-play. Sandpaper letters connect each sound to its shape through touch, leading naturally to writing and then reading.

French language learning introduces songs, stories and simple vocabulary, building listening skills and early familiarity with a second language.

Area 4 of 5

Arithmetic

Children move from the concrete to the abstract. Number rods, golden beads and counting games make quantity something they can hold, before numbers become symbols on paper.

Our “Number Nuggets” games and challenges build confidence with counting, patterns, shapes and problem-solving.

Culture & Science

Our window onto the wider world: geography with globes and puzzle maps, botany and zoology through plants and nature specimens, and stories that give children an early sense of time and place.

Children also explore celebrations from many cultures, reflecting the families in our community.

Beyond the Montessori Shelves

A well-rounded day also includes:

Creative Arts

Painting, drawing and crafts build fine motor skills, concentration and self-expression.

Music & Movement

Rhythm, songs and instruments build coordination, listening and confident self-expression.

Physical Development

Balance activities, “walk the line”, fitness games and child-friendly yoga build body awareness and self-regulation.

Outdoor Play

Time outside every day, plus neighbourhood walks and nature exploration in every season.

Sand & Water

Sensory play with pouring, floating and sinking builds early science and arithmetic concepts.

Reading Corner

A quiet, inviting space with books that stretch imagination and build early reading skills.
